The recent breaking news about Lyn Mitchell, the Missouri cow farmer who believes her cows were mutilated by aliens, got me to thinking about what we could do to counter an alien attack, should one occur. The more I thought about it, the more I realized that I had no solution. How could we plan to counter the attack when we have no concept of how advanced their technology is? (The assumption, of course, has always been that alien technology is somehow far more advanced than ours, which may be completely false.) Then, fortunately, a Twitter friend sent me some statistics that show what my fellow Americans think about aliens and how we could best fend off an alien attack. Here’s what I found out:

  • 80 million Americans, or 36 percent of the population, believe UFOs are real.
  • alienOne out of every ten Americans questioned on this pressing matter state that they have personally witnessed an alien spaceship.
  • 65 per cent of Americans believe that President Obama is better suited for handling an alien invasion that Mitt Romney would have been if he had won the 2012 presidential election.
  • 36 percent of those polled believe aliens have visited the earth, 48 per cent aren’t sure, and 17 percent believe they have not. 77 per cent believe there are signs that suggest aliens have visited the Earth.

alien2These results are in keeping with other recent studies regarding belief in UFOs. Typically, about one-third of those surveyed believe it’s highly likely or somewhat likely that intelligent aliens from outer space have visited our planet.

In what comes as somewhat of a surprise, 79 percent of the people polled believe the government has kept information about UFOs secret from the public. More than half of these folks believe there are “Men in Black”-style government agents who threaten people who spot UFOs.

Many respondents picture the big future alien invasion as an “Independence Day”-style attack on Washington, D.C.

alien3I think the important thing to keep in mind is that at least in President Obama, we have the “peoples’ choice” to combat the upcoming alien invasion. 65 per cent of the people can’t be wrong. And given the President’s penchant for skilled diplomacy, he just might be able to reason with the aliens, invite them over to the White House to listen to a little good soul music, and then –without further ado — send them back, fat and happy, to wherever they came from.

And if that doesn’t work, he can always send out for the drones. :-)

I image we can reply on our germs and viruses to defeat any aliens, unless they are body snatchers.

I agree that we would have a fighting chance but only if the invaders lack antidotes to our array of splendid germs and viruses. As for body snatchers, all bets are off.

      • Rick says:

How do we know that the germs and viruses on this planet weren’t placed here by the aliens in the first instance, and are of “alien” origin? In that event, we are all definitely screwed. Then again, when is the next asteriod scheduled to strike the Earth?

        • PatrickHMoore says:

Certain occultists believe that humanoids from the planet Sirius roam the Earth and spread spiritual benefits in their wake. Although I’m not convinced that’s true I do know that it’s a big universe and strange things could well be going on. The distances are so huge, though, that it’s hard to imagine how aliens could get here in spacecraft unless they could evade the time space continuum and ZAP manifest in our atmosphere.
